How does lesser ward work

Wards are defensive spells belonging to the school of Restoration that help protect you against melee and magical attacks. If the HP reaches 0, the Ward is destroyed and you experience stagger. Casting a Ward does not give you its full HP immediately; there is a period of time of about one second during which the Ward "charges up," unless you dual cast it, in which case it is at full HP immediately.

Whenever HP of the Ward drops below maximum value, it will immediately start regenerating it at a constant rate even if it's still taking more damage. Wards block only attacks from the front, however the angle of protection is pretty generous around 90 degrees. The armor bonus provided by Wards is minor. They provide some defense against magic damage, while also boosting armor by 40—80 points, depending on the type of ward.

The trigger area is in the circle, stand on the left edge, try to face Tolfdir perfectly. The Dragonborn is automatically standing in the trigger circle when Tolfdir speaks to them. When he says Just stand over there, do not move. Just look at him and hold the ward spell till he casts his spell at them.

Comment by Grantt This is yellow when learned at , green at , and gray at Comment by Kamikaze This also useful for healing shamans and paladins. The fact that it has no cooldown means that whenever you get hit by some aoe or pull agro for a sec, you can just pop another one on your shield.

Comment by An easy and cheap way to get a few 10 points of blacksmithing, and a useful buff for the opening seconds of any tough boss fight. It is also , of course, useful for healing paladins and shamans who can use this to absorb a little damage while their tank re-establishes aggro. I have long advocated the use of ward spells, whether to block dragon's fire or an opposing shout from a drauger of higher level or even to negate the poisonous spit of a chaurus, and of course to cancel or even absorb an enemy mage spell.

Ward spells also increase your armor rating, helping to negate a portion of damage from incoming melee or archery attacks.

There is a very good reason a ward spell is the first lesson you learn when entering the college. So then why is it, almost every playthrough on Youtube I see, even at higher levels, people do not use them? Do you prefer a shield instead? If so, tell me why. Showing 1 - 15 of 32 comments.

I've never been able to get the hang of ward spells, I'm not sure if you're supposed to time them with the enemy's attacks or hold them continuously, but I don't really find them useful. I guess it is the warrior in us To use more tactics just requires a little more effort and I guess that there are some of us who enjoy employing that, but why do more when the game is easy enough to allow you to succeed with just an OP modded weapon?
